95th anniversary of Mahad Satyagraha

Dear friends,  #mahadsatyagrah March 20, 1927 Dr. Ambedkar led people to visit a public tank and those people were able to drink water from that public tank. Before that they were denied access to water from this tank and many such in the country, on the basis of they being born into specific castes.    Today marks the 95th anniversary of this day which brought a revolutionary change. It was the first public attempt to overthrow the caste system. And claim access to the public good, (water, in this case), as a right. Are we doing enough now today? After 1961, in Maharashtra there was a movement led by socialists, "ek have ek panvatha", i.e., one village one well / source of water. As a result many villages got a properly constructed well financed by the state government of Maharashtra.  It helped all those who did not own a well, to be able to get access to water as a right.  What makes me write a poem? - Anger (Period) Here is a new one, doesn't end with anger but lest be assured it is fuelled by anger. Please read from text or from image.  Other Side Post truth world  Mocks at you  With its lies, damn lies  And pseudo-narratives Spitting venom on targets To bring out facts  From narrated stories With only heroes and the enemy One must dig out  All the dirt and filth  Hidden behind walls Full of discarded files  Counter the narrative  By digging up the debris  Of the silenced past Bring out the story  Of the other side. - Swati March 14, 2022 After writing this poem, I remember Urvashi Butalia's book "The Other Side of Silence", the kind of digging of records and files while researching for the book she did, guess it's upon us to bring out several facts discarded as useless, unwanted, uncomfortable debris.
